WPL is a bio-based oil company passionate about making a change with our products, indicative with our “Green” colours and commitment to creating products that are superior to their environment damaging counterparts. This post will outline 4 major reasons why synthetic oils shouldn’t be used for the maintenance of bikes and why you should choose WPL for your next choice of bike lubricants.

Perfect encapsulation of the bio properties of our oils. WPL is not harmful to the environment and deserves to belong synergistically with nature.

They Are Not Carcinogenic

A large concern of ours when dealing with the oils that are produced in the bike industry is the fact that they have carcinogenic properties that can lead to cancer.

Carcinogens are substances that are capable of causing cancer in living tissue. Lubricant that comes into contact with your skin can enter your bloodstream in only 15 minutes.

Safe to touch

If you’re a bike mechanic this should make you think twice about the oils that you’re using and touching. You should be wearing gloves at all times when dealing with mineral and synthetic oils.

Between 1920 and 1943 no fewer than 1,441 cases of skin cancer were attributable to the use of mineral oils.

When using WPL products you don’t need to worry about our oils touching skin because they’re bio based.

It’s our prerogative to reveal that these oils riders and mechanics are using in bikes are dangerous to both your body and the environment. Wear gloves when using petroleum based synthetic oils and take your gloves off when using WPL.

It is Biodegradable

When something is biodegradable it means that it can be decomposed and broken down into the earth. Petroleum based mineral oils are not biodegradable and collect in bodies of water hurting animals and sources of drinking water.

Professional tree fellers spray 1 gallon of chain bar oil into the environment every day.

As biolubricant markets expand, the true environmental savings potential of bio based oils will begin to be reached. Our oils will be applied in several different applications to reduce the waste of harmful oils.

We aim to eliminate the use of synthetic oils and replace them with bio based oils like WPL.

We Test With Riders and Scientists

We pride ourselves and set ourselves apart from competitors by testing our products with the best riders and scientists in the world. See all our athletes here. Owners of WPL are world tier in their crafts. Professor Alejandro (Alex) G. Marangoni, a tier 1 Canada Research Chair, is a world-renowned soft materials scientist specializing on the structure and functionality of triglyceride oils who is also and avid mountain biker.

Isaac Marangoni is a lifelong cyclist, racer, and elite athlete. He personally field tested every single product’s performance in the stomping grounds of the Whistler Bike Park.

With the rigorous testing that we set on our oils we can ensure you that the bio properties do not hinder the performance of them. Your bike will only prosper from the superior attributes of a a bio oil.

You Do Not Need to Dispose of it

Approximately 40% of the 1.4 billion gallons of lubricating oils used in cars in the USA are either burned in the engine or lost in leaks and drips. Another 180 million gallons are disposed of improperly onto the ground or into sewers.

Of the 5 to 10 million tons of petroleum entering biosphere every year, about 40% comes from spills, industrial and municipal waste, urban runoff, refinery processes, and condensation from marine engine exhaust.

Oil waste is a massive problem and has been for a long time. With WPL you don’t need to worry because any spill or leak from your bike, it won’t damage the environment.

In total, we found that the oil spill has likely harmed or killed approximately 82,000 birds of 102 species, approximately 6,165 sea turtles, and up to 25,900 marine mammals, including bottlenose dolphins, spinner dolphins, melon-headed whales and sperm whales.

This is only one spill!

The proper way to dispose of mineral/synthetic oil is to take it to a recycling station. How many people do you think are doing this?

Many of these statistics are referencing to massive spills and bike lubricants and oils are only a small percentage of these spills but by choosing WPL you’re contributing to a green alternative and helping the planet.
